Hey everyone, so far I have no music box so far but it seems really interesting and after reading the really helpful guide the other day I wanted to give it a try. As said before, I don't have a music box that works with paper strips yet and I don't know whether I should get one with 20 or one with 30 notes. Do you have some recommendations for me, on what I should start out on? Or how I can determine what the right music box for me would be?
And another question, how long does a paper strip have to be depending on the song? How long are the normal ones that are not a role and long would it have to be if you had a song with (for example) a length of about 250?
Heya, it's be a small white since you posted so I hope you're still around. If you think 'what is the right musicbox for me', think of what kind of songs you want to play. They work the same way and have the same dimensions. The 20 tone music box is slightly easier to crank, but the 30 tone musicbox gives a greater variety of possible melodies. Try to browse the music section on this website to see which melodies you like. Now, I myself prefer the 30 tone musicbox because it gives more options - having more notes after all. I like the 30 tone musicbox from grand illusions the most. The ones you find on amazon e.d. are from a different brand, and in my experience they break sooner. But I see that your country is Australia, so amazon musicboxes may be the only ones available for you.
As for the paper strips - I find that most strips are around 30-50 cm. That a minute of music at most, usually. Now as for indicated length - is that bars? notes? In either case, you'd be better off with a music roll. On a sidenote - rolls only exist for 30 tone music rolls. But when you have 20 tone music boxes, you can tape strips together (guide contains a link which explains how to do that).
Also, thanks for the guide compliment :) I wrote it. So if you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
