I punched a few songs out, and have really been enjoying it. As of recently, it seems like the music box is tending to "skip" or "stutter" when playing songs. The gears will continue to move, but it appears that the paper stops moving for about half a second, then it picks back up. It's almost like it loses its "grip" on the paper (but I can't figure out why that would be)
Has anyone seen any similar issues to this? Anyone know what's going on?
I have the exact same problem with 2 other musicboxes. It was a good investment to go for the model with the copper gears with I'm quite sure that the main plastic roller, which pulls the paper through the device, tends to lose it's strength. Wintergatan also made his own paper-pulling system with lego, i guess he and many others ran into this problem. For my own box I added a pasta-making machine covered in bicycle tire (yea it's not a small box) and it seems like a good alternative so far!
I noticed that the electrically driven ones have more drive rollers on them. I'm thinking of buying one and discarding the electric motor (I have a small steam engine)
Mark, i also have an electric one but it only seemed to slip faster than the hand cranked one! If anything i would try to swap the plastic roller with a hard rubberized cylinder of the same diameter.

Hm, I might just have to take a look at the plastic puller and see if I can't find a way to make it so it doesn't lose that strength. Any ideas?
