Hi! I am trying to transcribe some music to my grand illusion 30 and it does not have D#4 and B#3. Are there any combinations of the keys that when played together, they create a similar sound? Thanks for the help!
not sure, what you mean by 'similar sound'. i don't think you can combine other notes to create another note but sometimes you can play other notes in a way that it isn't much noticeable that a note is missing. but it depends on the context, which notes you have to use. b#3 is an exception. you can just use c4. it's a different name for the same note.
What I do if a melody doesn't work well because the notes don't appear on the musicbox, is to transpose it.
What I have used before is this: https://www.simusic.com/transpose.html I type in a list of notes that are used in my song. It guesses in which key the song is, and you can select another key in which the song should be. Then it outputs the notes the song would actually have in that new key. This allows you to play around with other keys until you find one which contains note that are more suited for the musicbox. Then try to remember how many half-steps up or down from the original key this transposition is, or make a translation sheet like A = C#.
It's a bit of a pain at first, but once you get in the flow it becomes easier.
If that's not an option, you can try replacing notes with other notes on the scale you use. I also use that trick quite often, also for the case when the original song calls for quickly repeating notes - which a musicbox can't do - so I change some of the notes.
