I'm just curious, why is there no c#4 on a music box? I was going to make a gift for someone really important to me but I can't because the melody uses notes that the box doesn't have. Any suggestions?
I don't have a music box yet. I'm trying to plan out a box for Jacksepticeye, or Sean when i meet him and I wanted to punch in the chorus of "What is my Life" a remix song Schmoyoho made for him. I'm using full 60, but I can't find a actual box that has that.
As Chew says, the existing real world instruments are limited to 30 notes.
While they have accidentals, which makes it possible to transcribe complicated melodies, they are designed to play in one key, or at best in closely related keys. The melody you want to transcribe appears to be very simple, so it will be no problem to play it on a 30-note music box.
But it will be best to transcribe it to the key of the music box. Otherwise, while you can play the melody, you won't have the correct harmony notes in the bass and in the treble.
The 30 note boxes I am aware of are all in the key of F major (even if the music punch paper that comes with ythem pretends they are in C major).
Your song appears to be in the key of A major (unless I am mistaken about the version), so it will be best to transcribe it two full steps lower, in order to have the richest possibilities for the accompaniment notes.

There are different types of music boxes. Which one do you have?
Also, which melody are you trying to punch? Because there are also different melody types on this website!

I see. There is no music box for full range 60 melody type. You should consider using gi 30 note and transpose the melody if needed.
