Hi! I recently purchased my very own 30 notes Wingostore Music Box. I already punched my first full-length song, "Koyaanisqatsi" by Philip Glass and I am very happy with the result. However, I feel like the box itself makes a lot of noise while being cranked. Is this much noise normal? If not, is there a way to fix it?
I would really appreciate your help, I am glad that a community like this exists.

I've watched the video and it seems that something is wrong with your gears. The gears noise has a periodic pattern, that should be quieter and constant. Maybe some gear is defective, or they are very tight. I don't know how to fix it :(
Agreed... that sounds like a physical problem with the gears. Are the gears copper or plastic? Plastic gears are actually much quieter, and they last a pretty long time, as long as you don't manhandle it.
Hey everyone! Thanks for your help and interest so far. The gears seem to be made of copper. I just made a new video with pictures of the inner mechanism and the handle working without any music. Perhaps it offers a better view of the problem. Thanks again! ([suspicious link] /watch?v=jTERZBy9iLU&feature=youtu.be
A couple of tips: 1-. Try to move gently with pliers the following piece of the music box in order to relief some tension on gears: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/8787/ldT12O.jpg 2-. Using some thin lubricant on gears (sewing machine oil) will reduce noise.
Hey everyone! Thanks for your tips and comments, especially you Alfarofran. I think I was able to fix my music box! I did what was suggested and used some pliers to tweak around the gears. There was one inner gear which I think was the responsible. I noticed that the noise had a rhythmic pattern, and that it made the annoying sound every time the crank was turned 3 1/2 times. Using that, I was able to locate the gear and I tried to remove some of the tension. Then I used some spray-silicon to lubricate the gears. The music box still makes some noise, but I think it now falls within the normal spectrum. Anyway, here's how it sounds now: ([suspicious link] Thanks again!
Riurik, I think you fixed it! Now the periodic pattern on noise doesn't exist, and I thing the relation between melody sound and noise increased noticeably. I only have music boxes with platic gears that are quieter. Maybe someone with a music box with brass gears can tell you if the noise is normal now, but I think so. Glad I helped you!
Thanks again, pal! :) (I just ordered a new music box with plastic gear. I hope that it sounds better. Funny thing that in this case it seems that plastic is better than metal, should be the other way around)
Metal gears are noisy but I think will last forever. Plastic gears are quieter, but very delicate and break quite often. There should be a solution with the best of two worlds :(
It's half a year later and I just wanted to say that this thread helped me so much! I had a musicbox that I had given up hope on when I started rattling after a few playthroughs. But with some gentle tugging with some pliers and it works again as new!
