Hi for a Project I'm looking for the right paper that I can use for Kikkerland 15. I'm looking for paper I can Print by myself (don't need to be bigger than A4/A3) and I can cut it by myself to Music strips. I've already tried Fotopaper 300g/m(works but color gets scratches) , "normal" 100 g/m paper (not stable enough) and glossy 200g/m (doesnt have enough grip so it doesn't move through the Music box even (lagging) Do you have recommendations? Is the paper not heavy enough or has it not enough grip?
The paper needs enough thickness so the musicbox can get a proper grip. Around 300g/m is right, but I wouldn't recommend fotopaper as it is very smooth and indeed prone to scratching, or doesn't provide a proper grip. I would recommend using normal 300g/m paper, like the type of paper they sell to print cards and invitations. Let me know if that works for you!
I've actually found relative success reusing old manila folders from offices and stuff. As they're usually made of cardstock, manila folders are rough enough for the music box to grip and a typical folder can be around 300-400 gsm.
I would not recommend printing directly onto strips made from folders and instead, I use an extremely light amount of spray adhesive or glue to hold the printed sheets in place, punch out the holes, and then remove the print paper from the manila strip. Your results may vary since manila folders quality may vary between manufacturers but even the crummiest manila folders I've used have only had light track marks in them but still hold up a bit.
