I've created and imported a MIDI file, the importer is defaulting to Grand Illusions 30 scale. When I switch to the Grand Illusions 30 (F Scale) I'm losing some notes that aren't in that scale. However, I've written the MIDI file to match the available notes for the F scale. Is there any way to make the F scale the default melody type when importing a MIDI file?
Hi and thanks for your question. Unfortunately it isn’t possible to set the scale when you import a MIDI file. However, you can probably work around this by switching the melody type to full range 60 after you have imported the MIDI, then transposing the melody back to the original (F) scale in the editor with the arrow buttons in the top menu, and then switching the scale to 30 F. The reason why this happens is that the MIDI import script tries to help the users by transposing the melody until it fits into one of the “standard” scales and the F scale isn’t considered a standard because the vast majority of the punch card music boxes and the paper strips claim to have C scale (although it isn’t correct). Hope it helps.
Ooh, just found out from that reply about transposing in the editor, good to know for the future! (fortunately the stuff I'd been manually transposing recently was pretty short)

Hi, thanks that makes sense! I’ll give it a go

Turns out I didn't need to switch to the F scale for my music box, here's my first stab at transposing a song. It's one of my favourites, The Call Of Ktulu by Metallica https://musicboxmaniacs.com/explore/melody/metallica-the-call-of-ktulu-v10_73760/
