I started creating songs on this website some time ago and I really don't understand the point of being able to duplicating a song just for the sake of it... It doesn't add anything to the song (I personnally used this feature to translate one song to another key, but many people don't change anything), and removes visibility to the original "creator"... Is there something I am missing ? I think it would be great at least to transfert the likes one's duplicated song receives to the original at least.
I also don't understand why there are so many cloned melodies, where the difference to the original isn't obvious to me. But there are also melodies where I just want to change some notes, so I can't judge others. Sometimes the cloned melodies are significantly better than the original and deserve more likes. So I think it is fine as it is. Maybe you should not be able to publish a cloned melody without any change.
Put that way it makes more sense I guess yes. But it still is a bit depressing seeing exact same cloned melody with likes when you put hours of work into the original one... I guess your solution would be fitting there but I would be afraid of seeing cloned melodies with a few random notes added to enable the cloning...
What could be the incentive for cloning a melody without changing it? Also I'm not sure why an author should care about likes. For me it is just a feature to find popular melodies. I'm creating the melodies for myself regardless if someone else likes them or not.
Yes I agree, I also came here to create melodies for my music box. But it is always good if the system recognizes the original creator of a melody : this is a way to encourage creating more melodies and most of all this is a way for people to be able to find those good melodies. You also can't deny this is a good feeling when people show their appreciation of your work after spending several hours onto it, even if this was initially only meant for your own music box ;)
Does this website get update? If so I think a reasonable idea would be to not only show the number of likes but also the number of clones or count a clone as a like.
I know that I've used the clone feature to clone my own melodies to create different versions, or to clone others' melodies when making a box for a friend and someone has a better arrangement than I do. I think it might be nice to have a line in each cloned melodies that says: "Original Creator: MaesHawkEye" or something to that effect---I understand the weirdness of having someone clone your melody without even liking it or crediting you.
