Hey there! I was looking through paper strip music boxes in the interest of buying one, and it looks like the only ones available are types that you crank it with your hand to play it. However, are there any available like the more traditional format in which you turn the little crank multiple times and then let it play? I'd prefer that type, but I haven't yet found any that are compatible with the paper strips. If someone has found this sort of thing, and could provide a purchase link, I'd appreciate it very much! Thank you, and have a stellar day!
Hello, such musicboxes don't exist, so train your wrist and crank it up :) What does exist is a musicbox where you don't enter a papersheet, but use your phone to send midi files over, which act as input as the papersheet does. It's also on the frontpage of this website: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/muro-box-the-first-app-controlled-music-box--2#/
I'm not sure if you can buy it now, but they are starting a new campaign for a 40 note musicbox.
Hello Heartsong1231, How do you feel about building your own mechanism? You could use an standard K15 or GI30 musicbox, cut the crank leaving an axel shaft end and then couple a wall clock winding mechanism or an electrical motor. For the coupling you could use a piece of wire cable and two electrical clamps. The clock winding mechanism is not so easy to find these days and probably it will be a little expensive compared to a motor. In both cases you must have to think on how to regulate the speed. Music boxes used to do it with a centrifugal wheel attached to the mechanical train; an electrical motor just require a small electronic control. If you are interested and want more details just contact me. I hope it helps.
You can also cut the crank and add a 3-5Volt electric motor with reduction gear (couple of bucks on Ali) that output 60rpm = 1 revolution per second= about a normal hand cranking speed. Fix to crank with thin rubber tube
