Hello, music box maniacs! New to using this website and printing off tunes to punch out. What type of paper is best used? Is standard printer paper alright or should I go for some light cardstock? Perhaps gluing two pieces of printer paper together? Not sure what will play on or even damage a k15. Thanks, best regards!
I use a Cricut machine and poster board to do mine. Poster board is cost effective and works really well, in my opinion. I’m not sure if it would work in a regular printer, though; I’ve never tried it.
If all else fails, if you want to try poster board and have a regular printer, maybe print out the song on copy paper, glue it to the poster board, cut it out, and then punch the holes.
Best of luck! I’d love to hear how it goes (or if you’ve already tried something, how it went) :)
cardstock works pretty well but what i usually do is just buy the rolls of music box paper, print out the strips, staple them to the music box strips, punch out the holes, and then unstaple the template to be left with a clean roll for the song. it is a bit tedious but it works pretty well and looks cooler imo too so. worth it
Hello, a question for RalseirAlseil. I see that you use a cricut to cut the strips. Have you ever used the DXF files of the pieces with your cricut to drill the strips, if not, do you think it's possible? Thanks for tout answer. David
@Daaveed sorry for the late reply, I didn't get a notification for this! Anyway, yes, it is absolutely possible, that's what I do! You just have to convert DXF to SVG. The Cricut will cut the strips and punch the holes for you. Somebody posted some code on a forum here once and I've been using it ever since. Their name is Obzerving on Github. I've made a tutorial on it if you'd like to see it.
Hello Ralseiralsei, Thank you very much for your reply and sorry for the delay. I didn't get any notification either.
The tutorial is really great and thanks for spending the time on it. Now I'm wondering if it would be possible to do the same thing, but punching on a roll to avoid sticking strips together? What do you think about it ? Regards David
@David, I don't think that would be possible as the precut roll's notes would probably not line up with the Cricut's. Though, if you try it, let me know how it turns out please!
