I recently purchased the Wingostore 30-note music box from Amazon. The gears are copper and I felt that getting this would last longer and be more durable than the Grand Illusions plastic gears, and likely prevent slippage. Unfortunately after a very short period of time, my gears are making a squeaking noise after every revolution.
Has anyone else experienced this with the copper gear models, and is there a good way to fix this? Is it better to just get the Grand Illusions music box instead?
Try some 3-in-1 oil where the shafts go thru the housings (I don't think there's actual bearings). You can use a toothpick - put a drop of oil on the end of a toothpick to apply)
I have a similar issue. Just got the 30-note with the metal gears. Much noisier than my nylon-gear 15-note box. Some posts suggested the metal gears lasted longer, but unless you use it constantly, I think the nylon gears will hold up. I've had my 15-note for several years and it's doing fine. Might have to go get another 30... with nylon gears.

Thank you Mark. I will give that a try.
