Just curious, but do you get the same reaction on your fingertips? Like, if you were to play guitar or something like that?

Funny you mention a guitar, when I was younger I got an acoustic guitar that I never played due to it.
It happens from putting on a shirt to brushing my hair. It's only a problem on my fingers and ears.
So wearing ear buds tend to be painful and because fingertips are so small the swelling hurts. it can itch, burn or hurt due to the amount of pressure.

Damn... that's awful.
Is there anything you can do about it at all?

You can take an anti-inflammatory, like ibuprofen. Though, it sounds a little worse than it is. I think of it in three groups.
Mild abrasion, when putting on clothes or so,= Reddened skin with some heat. Marks, when you scratch,= Reddened skin, Itching, raised wheals, heat depending on the pressure, some burning. And only on the fingers, when clapping or so,= all of the above, along with some pain depending.
Some say it can just stop all together over time. I've have wheals devolve and disappear in 5 minutes. But most of the time it's an half hour.
Most will say it's a physical condition due to you can get worse wheals from very hot or cold conditions. Though some say it's a mental condition because being stressed or so can do the same, I had one last 5 hours when I was pretty sleep deprived. (Sorry about the length of the answer!)

I find it very interesting to learn about rare (often mental) illnesses and phobias (such as dysmorphophobia, pica, maladaptive daydreaming, etc) and this is the first time I've ever heard of dermographism. I'm definitely gonna read more about it.
And don't worry about the length of the answer, cause I find it much more intriguing learning directly from your point-of-view (aka: the person who actually suffers from it) rather than reading about it on wikipedia, y'know?
For example... I'm very open with my mental conditions/disorders cause I value the times when I can support someone with similar problems, by us comparing our crap and relating to each other.
So yeah, I really appreciate the respons. Thank-you! :)
