Recently stumbled upon a music box my deceased grandma owned. I've been trying to look it up but can't find it anywhere. There's a plack on the back that says "Christmas Eve Collection Joy 'White Christmas' Limited Edition 9,950 Heritage House" The music box plays White Christmas and have a doll with a green dress sitting on top and moves when the music plays.
Any history behind this or dates would be greatly appreciated! :)
I am noticing there isn't a great place on the internet to discuss troubleshooting problems that people have with DIY boxes, save for a couple posts on this forum. I'm having some issues with all three of the 30 note boxes I own--seems like the two replacements I ordered both got damaged during transit :(
Here's what I'm thinking: what if there was a troubleshooting guide somewhere on this website that outlined common problems and suggested ways to fix them? Maybe a subset of this forum page (and if we wanted to go further with that, maybe forum posts could be sorted into categories so it would be easier to find what you're looking for).
Or: do any of you know a good place to look for tips on troubleshooting DIY music box issues?
If you're reading this and happen to know a lot about how the 30 note mechanism works, please let me know if you can help and I'll outline the problems I'm having with each of my boxes.
This has always been a problem for me: I had to buy a new roll of music box paper which is from a different brand than my music box (both are thirty note paper though) when I ran out of the paper that came with my music box. When playing with the paper that came with my music box, everything sounds fine including the gears, but when playing with the new paper, the gears make this loud grindy sound and it's hard to wind. I've noticed that the new paper is thicker than the old paper, so that might have something to do with this problem. Is there something wrong with my gears, the paper, or something else? I really don't want to resort to getting new paper because that new roll costs $30...
I know most of us don't create melodies using the provided "create" but import midi file instead. However, it would be great if we have some new functions to encourage people to use it, such as: be able to select a certain range of notes and move them up and down or adjust the spacing (right now we can only adjust the spacing of the whole song, I think), also if range selecting is available, it is better to have a copy and paste function for repeating melody.
P/s: really appreciate that the consecutive notes are highlighted, so it is easier for people to make some adjustment since repeating note within 1/4 won't work in the actualy music box :))
I recently bought a Kikkerland DIY music box (15 notes) and started using the tool to make melodies. However, for some reason, the tunes don't work? The first (and only, since I don't want to waste the notepaper) song I made was this one ( [suspicious link] ) but when I play it through the music box it doesn't sound right. I just hear random tunes but no distinct song. What am I doing wrong? How can I do it correctly?
+ question: how do I read the music sheet? I understood the blue X's, but what are the numbers at the bottom? How do I know which part of the song is which part of the music sheet? Thank you!!
(Yes this is my first time making any kind of DIY music box sheet; any additional advice is also appreciated. Thanks again!!)
So I'm dumb to think that deleting a published melody wouldn't make it disappear in my draft and the worst thing happened: I deleted my unfinished published melody and trying to published a more organized one and then everything disappeared (even in my draft section :(( ) so now I lost my entire work, any way to recover it???
I want to gift a music box with the Friends theme melody to my sister and I came across this piece: musicboxmaniacs.com/explore/melody/friends-theme-song-the-rembrandts_61578/ (Friends theme song on this website if you can't see the link). I played around with the settings to see the 20 note vs 30 note version but this is my first time working with any musical sheets and I don't know if there is a big difference. I would greatly appreciate any help or insight you guys can offer. Thanks!
