I know most of us don't create melodies using the provided "create" but import midi file instead. However, it would be great if we have some new functions to encourage people to use it, such as: be able to select a certain range of notes and move them up and down or adjust the spacing (right now we can only adjust the spacing of the whole song, I think), also if range selecting is available, it is better to have a copy and paste function for repeating melody.
P/s: really appreciate that the consecutive notes are highlighted, so it is easier for people to make some adjustment since repeating note within 1/4 won't work in the actualy music box :))
I recently bought a Kikkerland DIY music box (15 notes) and started using the tool to make melodies. However, for some reason, the tunes don't work? The first (and only, since I don't want to waste the notepaper) song I made was this one ( [suspicious link] ) but when I play it through the music box it doesn't sound right. I just hear random tunes but no distinct song. What am I doing wrong? How can I do it correctly?
+ question: how do I read the music sheet? I understood the blue X's, but what are the numbers at the bottom? How do I know which part of the song is which part of the music sheet? Thank you!!
(Yes this is my first time making any kind of DIY music box sheet; any additional advice is also appreciated. Thanks again!!)
So I'm dumb to think that deleting a published melody wouldn't make it disappear in my draft and the worst thing happened: I deleted my unfinished published melody and trying to published a more organized one and then everything disappeared (even in my draft section :(( ) so now I lost my entire work, any way to recover it???
I want to gift a music box with the Friends theme melody to my sister and I came across this piece: musicboxmaniacs.com/explore/melody/friends-theme-song-the-rembrandts_61578/ (Friends theme song on this website if you can't see the link). I played around with the settings to see the 20 note vs 30 note version but this is my first time working with any musical sheets and I don't know if there is a big difference. I would greatly appreciate any help or insight you guys can offer. Thanks!
First time poster, music box on its way, should get it next week.
Two questions:
Printing out some .pdf sheets I notice that the punch marks are normally a blue "x" but very occasionally there are a very small number of red "x"'s. What do the red "x" indicate?
Normal printer paper is classed at 20 lb weight, I'm assuming much too thin to put through a music box. Paper is also available in heavier/thicker weights such as 24 lb, 32 lb, 48 lb, etc, up to 110 lbs. Would printing the .pdf files directly onto 48 lb paper be thick enough, strong enough, to put through a music box? What would be the ideal paper weight to use? What would be the lightest weight paper you could get away using for a sample once-only test?
I was wondering if anyone could recommend, or dis-recommend, a 30-note model? It seems they are 'almost' chromatic but not quite, is that right? If so, is there a truly chromatic model, without going to huge expense? I'm in the UK, so UK suppliers would be ideal but elsewhere if necessary.
What is the easiest way of punching strips based on the PDF files downloaded from this site? I've tried punching the strip from the printer and then I try aligning it onto the cardboard strip for punching but it always seems to be millimeters off in alignment. Like the printed paper version was not properly scaled in the PDF file when printed. How do you folks print yours (I'm looking for a manual method, not an automated machine method)? How do you align the strip from the printer onto the cardboard strip?
For what it's worth, I'm using that 30 note box in F and cardboard strips that are pre-labeled in the key of C. I just ignore the printed notes and just go by the grid.
I'm a total newbie to the music box world and i have a question i need the answer to before buying my first music box.
does every programmable 15 note music box come in the same key? i can only buy from amazon (worldwide shipping and i'm in argentina), and i've found that there are 3 brands that have what i'm looking for in my price range: Wingostore, YouTang and Kikkerland, but i have no idea if all the music boxes come in the same key and if they are all compatible with the creation tool in this site.
Thanks to everyone in advance, i'm truly excited to join this community!
