I'm just curious, why is there no c#4 on a music box? I was going to make a gift for someone really important to me but I can't because the melody uses notes that the box doesn't have. Any suggestions?
My music box gears squeak and it makes me nuts! Has anyone ever put a drop of sewing machine oil on the plastic gears? Did it work? If the squeaking continues or worsens, I just may have to try it. Thank you.
If there are 60 notes melodies, why there is not a mechanism that actually can play them? there is the technology ... I will love to help in the project, one important thing is to do metal gears instead of plastic ones :)
Well, I don't know how to make it appear here but it suggested me to do that. So I decided to post it here. I hope that's ok. Here's my profile which offers more than just music box strips! Please check it out and have a lovely day! https://www.fiverr.com/rikumatsuo
In trying to create my music I really have trouble figuring out the timing. I am using my piano sheet music and hymnal. When I create the music here it sounds okay. When published it seems so choppy. What am I doing incorrectly. Music was set to 3/4 timing per measure. I notice that the measures on the creation staff are different colors for 3/4 time there are six positions to place notes. Assuming there are two note positions per note count. Is this an incorrect assumption? Practice, practice, practice. Eventually I'll get it. Have a great day.
Hehey! I'm completely new to this but had ideas for DIY music box projects for ages. I just ordered a hand crank 30 and a motorised 30 to play around with. Are there any differences sound wise between the 20 and 30 versions? If that's the case, I might have to order some 20's too and perhaps tune if needed.
I really wanted to express how wonderful this site is for those of us who love music boxes (hurdy gurdy) of all kinds. What a joy to create, share and download favorite songs that are difficult to find already done in a hand operated hurdy gurdy. The songs people have created are marvelous. I'm still navigating the site and have tried a couple of song creations. My preference is for really old tunes. Really old as in turn of the 20th century. The typical songs you would hear from a carousel calliope. So, there is much to do. Thank you for creating this site and, as indicated by reading your forum, you are diligent in listening to folk's suggestions and implementing them when and if you can. Keep up the fine work you do. It is appreciated.
Hi! I just got myself a 15 note music box. I'm sort of tired of holding it with my other hand while i crank it. And of course I will do some experimenting on my own, but can anyone give me some tips on how to create a housing for the mechanism that makes a nice, big sound? How can I make it as loud as possible, without a mic?
Also, I heard some problems with the gears breaking or something... I have access to a 3-d printer where I live, does anyone know the dimensions of the gears or something, in case they break? or maybe I can buy the gears to replace them?
