From 東方 - Double Dealing Character (Stage 5 Boss - Seija Kijin's theme) Composer: ZUN "I wrote this while thinking of the image of an extremely persnickety youkai. The result is pretty mischievous... well, the mood's pretty boss-like, so I'm happy. This is a fussy boss that would take the initiative in disliking others. Even so, she's the villain this round."
From 東方 - Mountain of Faith (Stage 2 Boss - Hina Kagiyama's theme) Composer: ZUN "Since she's a gothic lolita, I thought I should make it a more painful kind of feeling, but when I thought of my own preferences, and the matter of the entire game, this kind of feeling just settled in. Well, she's just a stage 2 boss. It's better to make her look a bit stupid."
From 東方 - Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (Stage 4 Boss - Patchouli Knowledge's theme) Composer: ZUN "Again with this sick feeling... It's a dark song, without any light or bright moments, despite its quite fast-paced nature. It could stand to be a little less heavy, as listening to this piece could drag someone down. (Laughs)" Afterword Shanghai Alice Correspondence vol. 1 "'Locked Girl'. A latchkey girl, if you will. It has nothing to do with Key. She's an unhealthy girl who loves the shade. By the way, speaking of sealed rooms... there's not much of an actual point to killing someone in one, is there? I could probably pull off a locked-room suicide, myself."
From 東方 - Ten Desires (Extra Stage Boss - Mamizou Futatsuiwa's theme) Composer: ZUN "It's full of that old tanuki feeling. Both foxes and tanuki are seen as tricksters, but of the two, tanuki seem more laid-back, right? So, they're probably not well suited towards danmaku battles, but as expected, the danmaku morphed into something else and..."
From 東方 - Undefined Fantastic Object (Stage 2 Boss - Kogasa Tatara's theme) Composer: ZUN "Most people probably buy quite a few umbrellas over their lives. You forget them on trains, and you buy vinyl umbrellas when you're caught in sudden rain. Anyway, I wrote this song based on the image of a self-centered karakasa youkai who gets depressed easily despite her cheery nature."
From 東方 - Mountain of Faith (Stage 1 theme) Composer: ZUN "It's been many a day since I last used this kind of mood. Considering the melodious part where the tempo suddenly drops, and tune which doesn't really cause any tension... I think this is the song most befitting of a stage 1 of all the stages 1 and 2 songs in Touhou games up until now. What do you think?"

From 東方 - Mountain of Faith (Stage 5 Boss - Sanae Kochiya's theme) Composer: ZUN "It feels like the metal section suddenly got bigger here; I thought I'd give this a heavy feeling, but I got careless and overdid it, which is a bad habit of mine. Tee hee. Whether it's the melody or something else, it's the heaviest in this game. From this point on, it suddenly becomes bright, and at the end it kind of lost its touch... The stronger they are, the less the feeling of tension: this is the promise in Gensokyo."
From 東方 - Mountain of Faith (Stage 6 Boss - Kanako Yasaka's theme) Composer: ZUN "She is a strange god who makes all human and youkai her friends with an overwhelming power. I composed a part which makes you feel awe towards a god, and a part which makes you feel the gravity of history. Anyhow, it's a playful tune which possesses ample reckless abandon. There's a huge difference compared to Sanae in the melody, but maybe this is the difference between gods and humans."
From 東方 - Mystic Square (Stage 3 theme) Composer: ZUN "It has a pretty good Makai feel about it, doesn't it? The stage 1, 2 and 3 songs all turned out with a real sense of speed. Since it's Makai, I think it feels more western... hmm."
From 東方 - Imperishable Night (Stage 5 theme) Composer: ZUN "Asian, Western, old, new; this song isn't one or the other. The boss seems that way too, but the stage itself is based in Japanese horror. Each song has a theme and this one's is based on the song 'Kagome, Kagome'. It's not an arrangement, just composed with a similar theme. I didn't want to get caged in on a theme for this one."
From 東方 - Perfect Cherry Blossom (Stage 6 Boss - Yuyuko Saigyouji's theme) Composer: ZUN "I gave this theme an oriental and melodious feeling as well as a strong determination. Having said that, the style of music is my usual fare. Extreme and elegant, powerful but ephemeral: i thought i'd make this theme quite emotional."
From 東方 - Mountain of Faith (Stage 3 Boss - Nitori Kawashiro's theme) Composer: ZUN "You'll hear it quite a bit, so i've tried hard to make it stay interesting. I've used some strange phrases and rhythms, but is it any good? I think you'll listen to it for a long time and your impression of it will change the more you hear it. Maybe it should sound kind of lonely in the end?"
From 東方 - Ten Desires (Stage 3 Theme) Composer: ZUN "Cemeteries that appear in games - unless it's a horror game - tends to make you imagine of a comical one. So there's no meaning in making the music too dark and heavy too. So i brushed it up with a comical feel as much as i can. I can't resist this nostalgic feeling (Personally too)."
From 東方 - Subterranean Animism (Stage 5 theme) Composer: ZUN "Since people stopped being condemned to the hellfires, the oni don't visit anymore either, so this place has become the playground to spirits and animals. Actually, i'm thrilled whenever i see something like a building people have abandoned. The grounds of Former Hell must be enveloped in the sort of loneliness that surrounds ruins... is what i thought of as i made this."
From 東方 - Subterranean Animism (Stage 5 Boss - Orin's theme) Composer: ZUN "This is the theme for a cheery, yet bizarre cat. Since stages 4 and 5 were pretty heavy, i tried to clear it up in a flash. The cart Orin's pushing is a wheelbarrow. What's it carrying, you say? Best not to ask such questions, i think."
From 東方 - Mountain of Faith (Stage 2 Theme) Composer: ZUN "In contrast with the first stage, this is a gloomy piece. The boss is a gothic lolita, so the music turned out this way. The transition from the mysterious intro to the chorus where your field of vision expands has a pretty good feeling to it."
From 東方 - Perfect Cherry Blossom (Stage 3 Boss - Alice Margatroid's theme) Composer: ZUN "Alice is a special character in this series, so i composed the theme with renewed vigor (not that i was lazy with the other songs). This theme's goal is to show that the characters are relaxed despite the intensity of the fight. This exemplifies them in my opinion... not the gothic-lolita costumes. I swear."
